Really? – LAUSD considers making arts education a ‘core subject’

Is this a sign that some level of common sense has returned to education? From the article in Southern California Public Radio:

“The L.A. Unified school board will vote on a measure Tuesday that would make arts education a “core subject,” prohibit further cuts to the arts, and ultimately restore some money to arts programs. “

Only hope this becomes the norm nationally!

Learning is messy!

  1. Hi Mr. Crosby,
My name is Kelsey Bebee . I am a student in a class called EDM 310 at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. For the next two weeks, I am assigned to your blog to learn about how blogging is important in education. As a future teacher, I think that making art a core subject is important just like you do. I hope that California will lead the way for all the other states. Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to your next post.
    Thanks,
    Kelsey Bebee

  2. I could never wrap my head around the idea of art not being a core subject. I believe that students will be more successful if the arts are integrated into as much curriculum as possible. The arts are a powerful tool for learning and I am happy to hear at least somewhere that idea is being thought about and pursued. Do you think that this is an idea that could catch on, and how could we as educators help make this happen?
